Bob Dylan Allows Director To Use His 600+ Songs To Create Characters And Plots For New Show

first_imgWith over 600 songs to choose from, writer/director Josh Wakely has a lot of material to sort through. Bob Dylan has given Wakely a carte blanche of his repertoire, as the inspiration for an in-the-works series. So far, Lions Gate is on board to produce, and Amazon has expressed interest in the distribution. The show will take characters from the music and adapt them into a series, though Dylan himself isn’t involved creatively. The show is tentatively titled “Time Out Of Mind,” taken from Dylan’s Grammy-winning 1997 album of the same name. According to a report in the WSJ, the show will take place in the 60’s and 70’s, in Manhattan, with a main character’s backstory taken from “The Ballad Of Hollis Brown.”According to the report, two songs would be featured in each episode, helping to drive plot and character development while also providing a powerful soundtrack. Cover versions of Dylan’s songs may also be featured, depending on the scenario. Interestingly, however, the show may not actually be music based, just inspired by characters from the music.Wakely was also the creator of the Beat Bugs series that draws inspiration from The Beatles. That recently-announced cartoon series will premiere in August of 2016, and more information can be found here.We look forward to seeing what “Time Out Of Mind” can offer, as it is certainly an intriguing project.[Via WSJ]last_img read more
