Libertarian Party Welcomes Refugees from the Republican and Democratic Parties

first_imgNeither candidate is a friend to liberty. And freedom-loving Americans everywhere are deeply concerned. For quite some time, Pew Research Center polls have consistently shown that more Americans identify as “independent” than as Republicans or Democrats. Now, many Republican primary voters are considering voting for non-Republican candidates in the general election.A Fox News exit poll shows that over half of Republican primary voters who did not vote for Mr. Trump report interest in voting for a third-party or independent candidate in the general election if Mr. Trump receives the Republican nomination. Here in the Libertarian Party, we are friends of refugees…those fleeing war torn countries, those fleeing desperate poverty, and also those fleeing despotic candidates such as Mr. Trump and Sec. Clinton. We welcome former Republicans and Democrats who value “liberty and justice for all” to find a new home in the Libertarian Party.Libertarianism is the idea that you should be free to make your own decisions in all aspects of your life as long as you don’t infringe upon the rights of others.Chair Nicholas Sarwark says, “If you are one of the millions of Americans who no longer feel you have a voice in the Republican or Democratic Parties, we welcome you to join us in our fight for the rights of ordinary Americans to be free to raise their families, run their businesses, and pursue happiness in any way that’s peaceful.”We are an incredibly diverse party, truly representing folks from every walk of life, who genuinely care about the rights of each person. We believe firmly that all rights, of all people, matter all the time. That is a key difference between us and the older parties, each of which is plagued with special interests that undermine the rights of some.Liberty-loving Republicans and Democrats, we invite you to declare your independence and vote Libertarian in November.FOOTNOTE: TODAYS “READERS POLL” QUESTION IS: If the Republican primary was held today for Vanderburgh County Clerk who would you vote for? It looks increasingly likely that Mr. Trump and Sec. Clinton will be the nominees for the Republican and Democratic Parties. FacebookTwitterCopy LinkEmailSharelast_img read more

Rising star Jyotika Dutta wins fencing gold

first_imgBhubaneswar: Size does not always matter. Ask Himachal Pradeshs Jyotika Dutta, the epee specialist who is taking the Indian fencing world by storm. Petite, lean and more often than not the shorter fencer in a competition, that has rarely come in her way of overpowering taller and bigger opponents. The 22-year-old underlined her growing stature in the sport on Sunday, clinching the first gold for Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar in Punjab in the fencing competition of the Khelo India University Games here.Just back from a highly productive stint in France, at the International Fencing federation’s high performance centre, Jyotika used that experience to bail herself out from a tricky start.“Adversity teaches you a lot,” she laughed, brushing aside her two defeats in the group stage. “I had some rough starts but was determined not to make the same mistakes in the knockouts.”And sure enough she didn’t. Up against an opponent at least six inches taller than her in Yashkeerat Hayer, Jyotika raced to a five-point lead and completed an emphatic 15-5 win.The final was a much tougher proposition, with Linthoi Haobam (Manipur University) matching her point by point. Yet, Jyotika prevailed 15-14 in a tense bout, using her small frame and quick feet to her advantage. The Rohru girl started fencing almost 15 years back at the behest of her cousin Jiteshwar Dutta, a fencer and a part-time coach. No one around her, in her small town, had ever heard of the sport.“In the early days my cousin would train me. He would procure the equipment and teach me the basics,” she explained. “I was a sprinter earlier; so I was obviously fitter than most girls my age.”Almost immediately her talent was obvious, and cousin Jiteshwar registered her for a trial at NIS Patiala. It has become Jyotika’s home since then. She attracted attention at the 2018 Asian Games, powering her way all the way to the quarterfinals. In the two years since then, she has only been climbing up, making it to the higher echelons in the sport. BERTIE AHERN’S INFAMOUS BUNDORAN SPEECH COMES BACK TO HAUNT HIM

first_imgA NOTORIOUS  speech delivered in Co Donegal in 2007 by then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has come back to haunt him.An independent report has revealed that his Government IGNORED all the warnings about the possibility of the bubble bursting the Celtic Tiger economy. And now a speech made by Ahern in Bundoran in July 2007 – which was branded crass at the time – is even more disturbing in light of the report, In July 2007 in Bundoran, Co. Donegal, told a meeting of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions: “Sitting on the sidelines, cribbing and moaning is a lost opportunity. I don’t know how people who engage in that don’t commit suicide because frankly the only thing that motivates me is being able to actively change something.”He was later forced to apologise to families of the victims of suicide for his choice of words. However it is the fact that international experts have found the former Taoiseach and his cabinet colleagues – including Mary Coughlan – ignored warnings about the economic model of Ireland that is now at the centre of controversy. The independent review of the performance of the Department of Finance over the past decade has found that the Department did warn the Government about the dangers of the economic policy it was following, but that its advice was overruled by the Cabinet. The review by independent experts from Canada and Holland looked at the advice the Department provided to Cabinet over the past decade.Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan welcomed publication of the report, saying: ‘It provides a very fair and thoughtful assessment of the Department’s performance over the past ten years.’The report found the Department of Finance was aware of the dangers of the Government’s pro-cyclical economic policy of increasing spending and cutting taxes – and of the overheating of the property and construction sectors, and of the vulnerability of the tax system to a downturn. The report says the Department did provide clear warnings on the risks of the Government’s policy, and that its advice was more direct and comprehensive than concerns expressed by others in Ireland or abroad. But it found that in every year except 2003 the Cabinet increased spending above the levels advised by the Department. It calls for big changes to the way budget information is prepared, published and independently assessed.endsBERTIE AHERN’S INFAMOUS BUNDORAN SPEECH COMES BACK TO HAUNT HIM was last modified: March 2nd, 2011 by gregShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
