A single goal might not sound unusual or special, but it was. The freshman scored to give Mayfield its first victory over Poly in 15 years. The win moved Mayfield up into a tie for second place, and in the hunt for a playoff spot.Mayfield Coach Calum Torrie: “Daria Young collected a pass and ended up the line toward the Poly goal. She cut inside and passed to Nadia. Nadia still had a bit to do, but she beat her defense, and then coolly slotted by the on-rushing goalkeeper from an acute angle, and from about 12 yards (out). The goal was huge for us this season, as it propelled us into a 4-way tie for second place. It was also a huge weight lifted after 15 years of ties, large defeats and close-fought losses. The messages coming in have been unbelievable. I have been there for all 15 years of the hurt.”Prep League Standings:Flintridge Prep (16-3-3 overall, 5-1-1 in league)Poly (13-4-3, 4-2)Westridge (10-3-1, 3-2-1)Mayfield (5-5-4, 2-2-1)Chadwick (2-8-1, 2-3-1)Firebaugh (1-10-2, 0-6)Remaining Schedule:1/31: Mayfield at Westridge at 3:152/1: Westridge at Mayfield at 7:302/3: Mayfield at Flintridge Prep at 62/7: Mayfield at Poly at 32/8: Mayfield at Firebaugh at 3:15center_img Community News Pasadena’s ‘626 Day’ Aims to Celebrate City, Boost Local Economy First Heatwave Expected Next Week Name (required)  Mail (required) (not be published)  Website  EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT | FOOD & DRINK | THE ARTS | REAL ESTATE | HOME & GARDEN | WELLNESS | SOCIAL SCENE | GETAWAYS | PARENTS & KIDS faithfernandez More » ShareTweetShare on Google+Pin on PinterestSend with WhatsApp,Virtual Schools PasadenaHomes Solve Community/Gov/Pub SafetyPASADENA EVENTS & ACTIVITIES CALENDARClick here for Movie Showtimes Make a comment top box 9 Girls Athlete of the Week: Nadia O’Reilly of Mayfield Senior School Published on Sunday, January 29, 2017 | 12:26 am Home of the Week: Unique Pasadena Home Located on Madeline Drive, Pasadenalast_img read more
