Council Approves Land Purchase For New MultiService Center In Sunnyside Area

first_img Share Photo: City of Houston’s Department of Health and Human ServicesParking is an issue at the existing Sunnyside multi-service center and, according to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, more parking would be available at the proposed new location, which would be built on the 4400 block of Reed Road.The Houston City Council gave its unanimous support on Wednesday for the construction of a new multi-service center in the Sunnyside neighborhood, located in the south part of Houston.The Council Members passed one item appropriating $1,015,000.00 for the purchase of a 6.5 acres property located at 4410 Reed Road from the Protestant Episcopal Church Council of the Diocese of Texas.That is the location where the City will build the new multi-service center, which will house a health clinic and will be accessible both from Reed Road and Wilmington Street.The second item the Council approved gave the green light to the purchase of a 1.47-acre tract of unimproved property located immediately south of the multi-service center where a community park will be built.As he announced the proposed location for the new multi-service center on Tuesday, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner noted that the new facility will be 60,000 square feet and will offer more parking than the existing one, which is located at 9314 Cullen Boulevard.last_img read more
