It’s time to let your voice be heard The National Center for State Courts has established a program to increase citizen participation on juries and has requested assistance in gathering basic data on the jury system in Florida, according to Judge Tom Bateman, chair, Supreme Court Work Group on Standards for Jury Panel Sizes.The National Program to Increase Citizen Participation in Jury Service Through Jury Innovations is a collaboration of the NCSC, the Council for Court Excellence, and the Court Leadership Center of Maricopa County (Phoenix), Arizona. As a crucial first step in this effort, the NCSC is conducting a national survey, the results of which will give interested states the benefit of objective and comparative information about the jury system in the U.S.“Florida, whose judges and lawyers are national leaders in jury innovations which make a juror’s experience more meaningful, is one of the first states being asked to complete the surveys,” Bateman said. “With this in mind, lawyers and judges are being asked to complete a short online survey about their jury experiences.”To complete the survey, visit the NCSC Web site at www.ncsconline.org/d_research/practitionersurvey/. The survey takes only a few minutes to fill out and must be submitted no later than March 31, 2005.
