1 dead, 2 injured in WCD smash-up

first_imgTwenty-year-old auto technician Victor Aditya Ram of Lot 496 Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara was killed in the wee hours of Sunday, while two of his friends are now hospitalised after the car in which they were travelling crashed into a metal signboard before slamming into a concrete fence at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.Reports are that 23-year-old Bishram Ramkishore of Lot 29 Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara was driving motor car PTT 6297 along the Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road on the West Coast of Demerara with his friends Victor Aditya Ram and 23-year-old Kevin Henry of Lot 22 Goed Fortuin as passengers. At about 01:50h, while in the vicinity of the Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company, a pedestrian allegedly began crossing the road, and to avoid hitting this pedestrian, Ramkishore swerved his vehicle. In so doing, he lost control of the car, and it reportedly crashed into a metal signboard before slamming into a concrete fence that halted its mobility. All three young men sustained injuries, and were immediately rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where Aditya Ram was pronounced dead on arrival.Ramkishore is unconscious and in critical state at the Dr. Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown, while Henry is receiving medical attention at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH).Guyana Times visited the home of the dead man, whose father, Surijpaul Ram, related that based on what he was told, his son was flung out of the car and into the rubble of the broken fence. He explained that in a call he had received at about 01:30h, he was told to rush to the WDRH because his son had been involved in an accident.“But by the time we rush there, they tell we that he was pronounced dead on arrival. So like when he fling out of the vehicle he died,” the distraught father disclosed.Questioned on where Ram was heading at that hour, this father could not say, but he explained that the three occupants were all well known to each other. The man said he was told that someone had attempted to cross the road in front of the vehicle, which prompted Ramkishore to swerve the vehicle to avoid hitting the pedestrian, thereby ending up crashing into the fence of the insurance company.“I can’t say much, because only a handful people saw, and I could only tell you what they told me,” Ram explained. The man noted that he is unaware of the fate of the pedestrian whose action had allegedly resulted in the accident. The dead auto technician’s mother was too distraught to speak, and was being consoled by relatives and friends who turned up at the house upon receiving the devastating news.Ram has been described by his father as having been a very friendly and loving individual who had had a lot of friends. He leaves to mourn his parents and only sister. His body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination even as the Police continue their investigations into the fatal accident.last_img read more

Khedira to Arsenal latest: €30m deal and the highest paid player at the club

first_img Sami Khedira is being touted for a switch to Arsenal 1 Following a starring role in Germany’s 7-1 humiliation of Brazil in the World Cup semi final, reports concerning Sami Khedira’s future have gone into overdrive, with the Real Madrid man tipped for a big money move this summer.Arsenal are just one of the clubs linked with the 27-year-old, but will they land him or will he end up elsewhere?talkSPORT rounds up the latest…Highest paid playerThe biggest development seems to be the problems that have arisen over Khedira’s current wages in Madrid. The Daily Mail report that Arsenal will need to make him their highest paid player – an idea they appear to be open to – but concede that the club could still look elsewhere in their quest to sign a new central midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender and Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin still being considered.€30m dealSport Bild seem to be keeping a keen eye on proceedings, reporting that Arsenal are preparing a €30m bid for Khedria. However, much like the British media, they also say that in order for the Gunners to secure his services, they will have to make him the club’s highest paid player. Mesut Ozil currently holds that title – earning an estimated €180,000-a-week.Stalled negotiationsSpanish outlet Cadena Ser have shed more light on Khedira’s current situation, claiming that Arsenal representatives have spoken with his agent over a potential move, but talks have stalled over salary demands. They continue that Arsenal have a transfer budget of €100m for the summer, and with Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy set to arrive at the club in due course, there is plenty of money remaining to land Khedira.CompetitionKhedira’s performance against Brazil looks to have prompted Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho into action, according to the Independent. Seemingly not content on signing Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, the Blues are considering a move for Khedira – who has worked with Mourinho during the latter’s time as Real Madrid manager. At the moment it looks to be just fleeting interest, but given Chelsea’s comparable wealth, Arsenal will be keen to get any deal over the line sooner rather than later.Arsenal fans, will you land Sami Khedira?
