first_imgDear Editor,With the Golden Jubilee being such a pivotal milestone for this dear land of ours, and with thousands joining each other to celebrate the Guyanese culture, and to rejoice in our shared experiences and values as we move forward to a brighter future, it was extremely sad to see City workers who worked so hard to prepare the C0ity being prevented from enjoying the fruits of their labour.Of all the times the Georgetown City Council chose to delay the payment of wages and salaries was the month of May 2016, our Golden Jubilee month. It is most unpatriotic, it is cruel in fact I would consider it sacrilege. The pockets of the big boys in the Council’s administration are filled; so they could have celebrated in fine style, but it was the small man that suffered, and was prevented from attending the shows and other events. How could Royston King and his merry administrators look into the eyes of the butchers, policemen, street orderlies, construction workers, day qcare attendants, drivers and cleaners and wish them a Happy Independence?During the administration of the previous Town Clerk, never one month was salaries were paid late, because there was never such squandermania. The President or Minister of Communities should have intervened and saved those poor workers. Where is the Union?Sincerely,Jermain Johnsonlast_img read more
